Above the Ground Under the Clouds

''above the ground under the clouds" is a performance about effects of current events on our daily lives and how we perceive tragedy through technology today. Three young people trapped in undefinable place struggle against fear of going out despite of their desire to live life fully as their body and conscious slowly dissolve under the shadow of inevitable information coming from digital platforms. It is not only the abstraction of the state of young generation of Turkey now but also the common sense of insecurity that all contemporary people share universally.

‘How can I go out with the knowledge of bad surprises might come out at any corner as I walk in? And how can I repress my desire to go out, drink, dance or simply walk and be the part of outside world? How can I ignore the fact that I’m not safe in any part of the world; by giving up on smartphones or deactivating my social media accounts? Can I be safe if I stay at home? What is being human/an human being if freedom to go out is taken away?

These have become the questions triggered the happening of the performance that created through the rehearsal process. Therefore the stage is designed with many wires and cables at the ceiling like dancing in an abstract form with different colours. There are different high-tech devices hanging from them such as i-phones, e-cigarette, splash speaker etc. All becomes the courier for this feeling of universal insecurity. Three people under them struggles with preparation of leaving the space they fill but they avoid each other from actually doing it. This becomes a torture/revenge game among each other while they record each other live on Facebook as they are exposed to torture. This game turns into their own tragedy in the world they created.
